Question Well, it was bound to happen...

...a rock hit struck my windscreen while on the highway today and put a good size crack in it.
Anyhoo...can any glass place handle this, or is this a dealer job?

Use a good quality cloth rope and plenty of soapy water. You may want to pick up those cheap suction cups from harbor freight too, makes it easier to work the screen into position.

Also, make sure to overlap the rope by a decent amount so you don't lose the lip. I also found it easier working from the bottom up.

Any real glass shop should be able to cut one, its just laminated glass. AB has them for around $100

Get the one from AB. If a glass shop makes one they'll use 1/4" laminated glass which is slightly thicker than original. Make it very difficult to fit into the gasket

Use a Pilkington brand only - there is another brand that is very prone to cracking on installation. It's worth it to have a glass shop do the install if they can furnish the glass. That way when they crack it they have to replace it. Flat windshields are very prone to cracking during the installation.
AB sells the Pilkington brand.
