checked the fan clutch when I got home this afternoon as that seemed to be the consensus of where to start...sure enough, it failed the tests. I did the newspaper stopping test (failed in like a second) and the free hand spin test with the engine cold then hot...

guess I'll start with ordering up a new one and see if that fixes my problem!
