what RPMs? Does it sound like it is inside something or on the outside? Is there a rattling to it at all like the sound the cats make when they fall apart?

Yep that may be why the light is on. I would check the ECU code I bet it has something to do with your cats. You develop the most exhaust pressure and flow when high in and the engine is under a load, so thats why you only hear it on the highway uphill high in RPM.

Cats are $$$ at the dealer, not sure how much, mine are both dead but we don't have smog checks so I leave them as is for now. And I am pretty sure that you will fail your smog check if they are bad. But you could do this

Not unless you really need one (like it is rusting apart), or you want a better sounding system. If it is just sound then get a Flowmaster, for an upgrade go stainless, Borla makes a system but it is only cat back and it costs in the $400 to $500 range.
