Question Webasto Thermo Top overhaul help needed

I have a C/Z diesel unit. I've pulled it to put a new glow plug in it and decarbonize the burner, since it's was spotty starting in below freezing temps. I have it on the bench, and although I found very little carbon, I was expecting a burner screen (steel wool mesh) inside the burner chamber that I've heard so much about being careful with, only to find there wasn't one there at all.

Has anyone else had their Thermo Top C apart and seen the metal mesh in there, or was yours lacking one as well? The parts manual has no reference to internal burner parts.

I can see a burner screen available from china (of course) for the C/Z on ebay. nobody else stocks just that part that I can find.

I pulled apart and refreshed two c/z diesels that came right off Freelanders in the UK and neither of them I believed had a steel wool mesh in them.

No idea. But if you have spotty starting when cold it is most likely the fuel filter plugging. They gel easily. Make sure the filter is new and you are using an anti gel.
