Vinny the Rover Specialist - Garfield NJ - Contact??

Hey guys, i'm running into a bit of a issue with a shop I dropped my truck off too. I dont want to jump to conclusions but its getting me very frustrated.

Does anyone have a number other than 201-688-0049 for Vinny Torrone. He has a shop in Garfield NJ, and long story short I haven't had any of my phone calls returned. He's had the truck for a month and last I checked (by stopping at the shop) on 4/19, nothing had been done (i dropped it off for a gas tank replacement and engine swap).
I did tell him i wasn't in a rush for the truck back, but did want it back by end of the month...

Again, i've heard alot of good things about vinny, so I dont want to jump to conclusions, but of the numerous times i've called him since he's had my truck I haven't gotten 1 phone call back and i'm starting to get upset.

If anyone has an alternate phone # it would be appreciated... thanks

I'll be taking a ride there tomorrow AM, unless he's halfway through the swap and working on it I'll be loading it back up on a trailer and taking it home

Vinny takes a while but does solid work at a reasonable price. Not very responsive...

So i got the truck back today.... showed up at 9am to see what was up, after calling the business line and his cell w/out an answer. Got there, and politely told him I can't continue to wait. I said I dont mean to be a pest and he promptly said I was....
bit my tongue and just told him I'll pick the truck up this evening.

Went there and he left it out for me to pick up after hours, its back the house now with the engine. Only thing that was done was a re-surfaced flywheel on the 200tdi and somehow my gas cap got broken...

Things that bother me - not once over the course of a month was my phone calls returned.... yet when i called him originally to see if he would do the work he picked up the phone right away

Every week for 3 weeks he said he was going to get on it "this week", yet 4 weeks later that wasn't the case I understand clearing codes with a scanner is easier and probably more profitable, but Im a little POed I wasted 5 hours bringing the truck there and back, loading the engine and offloading it etc.

So in short - i wont criticize his work since i didn't get to see any of it, but my expierence was less than desirable... I know others say he great so maybe there was some other reason behind my expierence.

That sucks. And if I were you, I would criticize his work. Part of running a business, ANY business is communication. Communication with customers, clients, whatever, it's how you get paid. This guy sounds like a number of specialty mechanics I've dealt with over the years (a Porsche mechanic comes to mind) who think they are doing yeomans work to fix your car, and you should be licking their boots.

Unfortunately, specialty mechanics never took the business 101 classes on customer service.

This guy may do good work, but he's negated that by being a douche. Move on, warn others.

It may also be the reason his shop has had to move 3-4 times over the past couple years..

Project trucks

Come on guys give me a break. Even after the takeover with my business with my X brother in law . I find a bigger better cleaner updated facility with a/c heat, kitchen, customer lounge all the perks to better serve everyone and now it sounds like i am on the run according to some people that do not even know me. So with that said.
PROJECTS ARE THAT AND USUALLY LONG. Thanks again to all the guys that really appreciate my great work and patience unfortunately i cant answer the phone all the time.It rings none stop all day and night. I do return them.

Vinny,

Lets state facts here:

Only thing I did by posting this was share my expierence truthfully and honestly.

Projects take long - sure, this is an engine swap, not exactly a "project", also you agreed it would be done in a months time - it wasn't even started in a months time. For 3 weeks in a row you said " i will start this week", it was never started

Phone calls - I'm going to call BS on the call backs. for the first 3 weeks I called you maybe once or twice a week to find out if i needed to order a new gas tank, never got an answer, never a call back, I had to stop at the shop to get a hold of you. Week 4 I was getting upset and worried and called you mutliple times a day, on multiple numbers for 4 days in a row AND over the weekend and yesterday AM before I stopped by.. No answer, no call back. When I asked if you got the messages you turned away and said no (gonna call BS on that as well bc the phone number worked fine when i first contacted you to see if you would do the work, also - you have a screening service on your phone that asks for your name prior to sending the call soon....why is that?).

Again - I'm not knocking your work, but the communication was lacking to say the least...

That being said, no need to beat this horse any longer...if I mispoke about anything please feel free to "clear it up"

edit: forgot to add - he did get the flywheel re-surfaced for the 200tdi, was going to leave him the $50 for that when I realized I only had a $20... good thing since i realized my fuel cap lock is now broken (which it wasn't when I dropped it off), and a replacement is $40 + shipping, I said lets just call it even.

hey

I had also used vinny many times and never had any kind of problem with his work but in you case you are saying that it is more than a month so i think you should go to the shop and get back your truck and take it to the another shop on Garfield.

Fairhaven import auto do great work but they're not cheap. There's also a transmission shop in Manasquan that would probably do it as well, they rebuilt my r380. Cannot remember the name right now.

He ended up doing it himself. And I think he spent less time installing it than he did to trailer it up and back to the garage.

Did it myself in a weekend more or less
