VIN re-stamp

Has anyone run in to this before? I'm doing some rust control and noticed my VIN number is getting a bit rusty and attempting to fade away. I don't want to paint over it becaus eI fear it will completely go away. I think I can get my frame re-stamped but where do you go to do this? what type of shop can do it? what paperwork do I need to bring?
Thanks

Just to make it clear I'm talking about restamping an already stamped frame with the same VIN number... nothing fishy.

I believe that you can get a new sticker that is on your bulkhead but you have to go to the dealer and show the title and your ID or something like that...
