Verifying authentic d130 build

I recently sent a web inquiry to the British Motor Heritage folks for a 1992 d130 I am trying vet. As I sent the VIN to them, this was their response:

Further to your Web Research request the build date recorded for chassis number SALLDKAG7JA/xxxxxxx is not recorded in our records but the vehicle was despatched from the factory on 27th February 1992 and went to Land Rover Fleet.
The colour is not recorded but I can email our Land Rover contact next week (they are closed this week) and get the colour for you then.
We don't have any records of registration dates so I can't help with that question.

Regards

If the chassis does not show up in their records, should that be a big cause of concern for me?

I am not a specialist, but according to all the books I have, the "G" in the VIN stands for 2,25 D (10J ) engine.
THey didn't make these engines anymore in 1992.

FOr special order they did make the 2.5D but then it should be a "C".
(or an "F" for 200 Tdi, which was the most common)

sure you got the correct VIN ?

I did record it down correctly...the VIN was the only number I gave them, and they were with that able to relay the dispatch date, but that the chassis wasn't in their records...that just doesn't make sense to me...was hoping to get more insight on that bit

Double checked my records of the VINs of all the Land Rovers I have had trough the years. + I have owned a couple with the "G" in the VIN for the engine code and these were all 1983, the only year this engine was build.

The last 6 digits are just a number and are given in sequential order over all the different models. I have seen dealers working with only the last 6 digits to identify the cars. I can image the dispatch records only used this number so they were able to inform you about this release date.

G en C look very similar in the font LR is using, see two examples below.
You might want to try the same question but with the C, see what they come up with.

TO add onto what Johan mentioned, one digit off and it ruins the vin decode typically.

Ed:

It may help, the DVLA (https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla) may have records under the UK tag/registration number that will show you when the vehicle was first registered and some other pertinent information (color, etc). I've pulled my UK tag up in there before, and it is accurate.

Not exactly what you were looking for with the vin information, but it may be a place to start.
