vent seals, which is better?

I have an '84 90 with perished on-bulkhead vent seals (believed to be original equipment). I ordered up a new set and was sent the on-door variety. After reviewing previous posts, it is unclear which might be better. Has anyone gone from the old style to the new style with success or should I stick with the bulkhead-mounted variety?

Get the rubber series ones ... Be careful when you glue them on ... Live leak free ... At least from the vents!
Soapy water / KY jelly, etc. is is basically a must. Yes, good idea to remove trim panels - only takes 5 more minutes to do so.

i just used the stock ones which go on the flap (the series ones go on the body i i rememer correctly)
easy job, remove the exo-cage cross bar and take the out from the outside. remove old ones, clean off glue and reapply carefully)

they don't leak.
Defenders don't wear out they just need more parts.
