VDO Programmable Speedometer Upgrade Question

VDO Programmable Speedometer
(http://www.egauges.com/vdo_ind.asp?T...ion&PN=437-155)

Per, http://www.defendersource.com/tech/speedometer_replacement.html , does it require the replacement of the 94 VSS with the 97 VSS
( http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/YBE100540G.cfm
, http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/YBE100540HRK.cfm) ? Do you attach it directly to the transfer case removing the short cable that attaches the 94 VSS to the transfer case? If so, are the two wires split: one set to the speedo and one to the ECU?

Thanks,

Dan
