Vapor locked...what to check?

'95 D-90: While driving out to Moab, started stalling 3 times at hwy speeds, black smoke, cleared up 30-40 seconds; felt like it was fuel related; while running Hell's Revenge, same thing...thought is was MAS, swapped in a spare, no change, maybe fuel pump going or ground short so started checking for loose wires and noticed slight fuel drip @ fuel evaporative canister line fitting...removed gas cap to relieve pressure...fired right up. Happened again, loosened cap, ran great...same on return trip home...check engine light came on (oops; ran engine while removing gas cap entirely), have not read the code...note that this same symptom happened a couple of times wheeling last summer @ timberline but cleared up quickly...

any ideas? Bad cap, evaporative canister relief ? other?

thanks,

sounds like a plugged fuel filler cap to me.. can you hear pressure whooshing noise when taking off the gas cap?

Me too. Other issue could be the exhaust leaking cooking the fuel in the tank.

cap first, then check that the lines are not plugged or crushed.

Also check the vacuum line that goes to the fuel pressure regulator behind the intake.

fuel pressure regulator-sticking

regulator is sticking...a few sharp taps and it runs great. symptoms are stalling, starving for fuel, vapor lock, and gas smell out back...can it be cleaned/serviced?
