Value of Fairey Capstan winch?

I'm entertaining the idea of selling my capstan winch but I have no idea what it is worth.

I will be including everything I have for it, minus the crank pulley. Mounting brackets, winch, pto arm with spring, mount, etc. I would also include the A-bar mount for the front bumper. A-bar has light tabs mounted and could use a strip and repaint. The powdercoat is bubbling and cracked in places.

What is a fair price for the setup?

I've sold two complete working ones in the past for, I think, $150. It may have been $250, it's been a very long time.
One was a Mayflower and one was a Fairey.

If I am not mistaken.. Ron bought an entire Truck just for the winch... so I guess the value is in the " I have to have " kind of deal

I've seen these listed for anywhere from $200-900+. There are some on Ebay right now for close to $1000. I don't think that the Ebay ones will sell at that price, but it is interesting to see them listed there. In the thumbnails they look rebuilt, but in the full size photos it just looked like someone hit it with a coat of black paint right over the rust. I would assume that the different models/years hold the key between a collectible/matching/desirable $800 winch and a $200 just for fun winch. I just have to find out which winch mine is.

I know very little about it. It was mounted on the truck when I bought it. I remember looking up the serial number to try and find out some info on it, but nothing came up. I can get the nameplate information on Monday and post it, if that would be of any help.

I did not buy the capstan, I bought the PTO driven winch (with truck attached!). I had one of those capstans. I sold it for 300-4000 IIRC. It went to a guy in canada. This was during my winch collecting phase in 2001 or so (I had 7 or 8).

The PTO driven one worked out ok for all involved. I got all the parts I needed and Tomaco got a donor truck.

I looked at the winch today but forgot to take pics.

It has a smooth drum, which is different from others that I have seen. It has "Fairey Winches LTD" embossed on the top.

It has a red serial plate similar to the one in this photo, but mine is mounted on the side of the winch:
http://c0.dmlimg.com/1fc1c1c2db5852e...55fa118320.jpg

The plate has what appear to be hand etched numbers on it for the serial number and the two boxes under it. I forget what those boxes are for. I believe the serial number is something like SG-303, but I could be way off.

The front bracket folds down to reveal what appears to be an output shaft. It spins with the winch when engaged.

I finally had a chance to revisit this. I want to go with an electric winch and aftermarket bumper, so it would be nice if this thing was worth some money.

I guess I can't embed images yet.

I have the Superwinch version. I need to replace the input shaft oil seal, but the original is so deteriorated that I can't get a number from it. If you (or anybody out there) can give me a number for the seal, that would save me some struggling. I called Superwinch this morning, but they have no information on this "antiquated" winch.
