using a tow bar on 84 d-90

I want to tow my 1984 row d-90 with a tow bar (it has an LT77 transmission and LT230 transfer case). The distance that I have to tow the truck is about 5-7 miles. I would be using a tow bar and towing the d-90 with my 2013 Jeep Wrangler (the d-90 exceeds the towing capacity of my jeep by less than 100 lbs... no big deal). Anyway, do I need to disconnect the front or rear drive shafts on the d-90 to tow it without damaging the drive shaft?

Transfer box in neutral should be fine. If it were an automatic, transfer box in neutral and transmission in park.

I agree with jimmy for a short distance like that. If you were doing hundreds or thousands if miles I'd pull the driveshafts

I've done thousands of miles like that no problem. The real concern is jack knifing. Make sure you come to almost a complete stop before making turns at an intersection. Otherwise the towed vehicle will push your rear end out from underneath you. If your tow vehicle were big like an rv this isn't a concern but when the tow vehicle and the one being towed are close in weight it can get scary. Remember, the vehicle being towed isn't doing any braking

you never need to remove the drive shafts

Thanks for the input. Does anyone have an idea for attaching a tow bar to the defender? Is there some time of ratchet strap bar or something?

Most tow bars come with brackets, backing plates and 1/2" grade 8 bolts. You have to bolt the brackets though the front bumper, preferably in line with the frame rails.
