Take off the inlet pipe to your turbo. Does it look like or do this?

Yeah it is below the surface of the manifold. Nothing for it but removal of the manifold and yes hope for best that it is grabbable. Sent you a PM, Dan - thanks!!

Good point about the turbo bearing play, Scotty, and I too had feared that the turbo itself was bad. But mechanic's inspection on Sat checked that and pronounced the turbo sound.
He also pointed out that I am leaking oil from up near the top of the block, probably from the valve cover gasket. The left side of the block is wet with oil.

So grateful to Chris at Rovertek for doing this emergency repair at midnight last night after a full day at work. Just cannot say enough good things about his work and dedication to his clients. One in a million! For future reference in case anyone needs to know, the thread on those manifold studs is 1.50 (I could only find 1.25 at a parts store here so once again Chris had to pull a big rabbit out of the hat to mod a 1.50 bolt)

And big thanks also to Dan (ini88 ) for letting me grab his manifold gasket to get the repair done. Just feeling the D90 love so much today. I love all you guys : Cheers,John
