Upgraded Hinge Prep and Install

I bought the new hinges from Rovers North to replace my rusted ones and want to make sure I prep them properly. The hinges appear to be bear metal with a rough texture to them. Do I need to sand them before applying the first coat of primer? Do I sand between applying primer coats? I bought the AA yellow paint from paint scratch as well as some clear coat. Any suggestions would be appreciated since I plan to repaint my ST door cappings and a small rust area on the underside of my bonnet at the same time. Thanks.

I am guessing you do not want to sand the hinges as you will remove the protective coating.

Clean well and maybe apply etching primer.

What are the specs on your aa yellow paint? Is that just a base coat in the can or a single stage?

I do not think I would use the duplicolor clear, products like that typically do not have hardner and do not hold up well.
