Unknown mileage 97 d90 willow green LE

Question is, I have an opportunity to buy a 97 willow green LE, but the mileage is unknown.
The speedometer has been replaced. The cardax states that in 06 it had over 110k. Also the roof rack has been taken off. Asking 35k. It looks good and drive ok. No noticeable issues, but not sure what to look for. My question is it worth the money and risk not knowing how high mileage is and what has or hasn't been replaced. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

I would have it checked out by a guy who owns a D-90. There are plenty of honest rover guys in NC, some are members on this forum.

You need to just remember that when you plan to sell it you might have a customer asking the same question.

mileage

When I bought my truck, the P.O. said that the odometer had been replaced at 160K and the current odometer had 110K on the clock at that time. The body, frame and interior were in good shape but I have replaced most everything on the drivetrain including an engine rebuild - engine and LT77 out of necessity. T case, drive shafts and rear axles out of upgrading. All suspension bushings were shot and springs were dead. I paid $20K my 94 ST with 270K miles. That sounds a bit steep on price with that mileage only because of the resale value after you drive it for x number of years.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If you really want a willow green LE, then you have to compare the price to others that are for sale or sold. If you just want a clean D90, then you could probably do a lot better, imho.

What number (xxx/300) is it? There aren't that many LE's out there. Someone on here may even know the truck.

I agree with Kevin. Lets say milage is like 150k, $35k is high for a good condition SW. On a non-LE I would think best case of $28-30k +/-. If you need a new engine in a few years, you are way out of market. Also, for an LE, the missing rack is also a hit of about $1200-1800. Just my opinion.....

Who replaced the speedo? My presumption is that it wasnt documented? For 35k, its not worth it. Especially without the rack. Give it a really good look over- typical areas should tell true condition. Keep a few grand in reserves for issues if you do end up buying. My guess is there are a decent amount of 97's, and defenders in general, that have had a speedo issue at some point or other in their life.

The door bottoms look great, no sign of rust. It came from Texas. The price came down from 40k.

Where is the truck located. 40k for unknown mileage, I'd keep saving and looking.

You went from looking at sub $20k trucks to mid $30k trucks? Odd. Anyway, what you were looking at in that LE is a total rip - I'd rather have this for basically the same price.
