Turn the key and . . . CLICK!

Hey everyone,

I am sure this is an easy fix, but nothing seems to come easy to me. I recently removed the A/C system from my '95 D90. At the same time, I also removed a beat up (and non-functioning) wiring harness for a pair of Hella lights installed by a previous owner.

Since removing both items, the truck won't start. I turn the key to "start" and all I hear is a click from the starter relay. I don't think the starter solenoid instantly went "bad" so I must've removed a wire that was important.

Any ideas?

Does the starter solenoid itself "click"?

The battery is fully charged, and I do not think the starter solenoid clicks.

If so, could be just the starter solenoid's fuse.

If it is allot colder than when it did work, maybe the relay's contacts are worn out.

This seems to come up allot lately, No?

I don't think anything is blown or broken, simply because it ran fine when I parked it in the morning. That same day I removed the A/C and wiring harness in the afternoon, and then it wouldn't start.

I guess I am not knowledgable enough to know how to troubleshoot it.

Is it possible that the connection to the starter has been compromised?

Greg, have you put a volt meter on the battery to see if it's truely charged? Despite the fact that Ron went to a sub-standard college, I think he's dead on with his diagnosis . . .

I'll give that a shot tonight, although it is relatively new battery (3 months).

Sub standard. Pish. We had more D90s per capita than any other college in the country.

Where are you in McLean? I work in Tyson's Corner (intersection of Route 7 and International drive -> i.e. the Tyson's Mall 2 area). I'd love to come by and give you a hand if you did not get it working (probably tomorrow night though).

I would definitely check all the fuses first. I am the expert of pulling wires and creating electric arcs..... But of course you could have pulled on the wrong wire at some point....

The truck is located off of Old Dominion Drive, near the Chesterbrook Safeway. However, I will not be able to get to working on it until Saturday at the earliest It gets dark around 6:00 still, so my evenings are shot. But then again, I am feeling a little sick.... cough, cough....

Hey Tyler,

The house is tucked up in the woods, and the Defender is usually in the garage. I see a Defender on average of 1 every 3 days in the area, so I have probably seen you driving around before.

Greg.

Maybe mines an Arles with gray soft top. I don't get home but maybe once a week or two. You aren't on the point at Linway and Old Dominion are you? There use to be an 88" that lived there.
