tub width on a '94 D90 is tapered "natural"?

I need to build - well need is a bit strong but that is what I told my wife and I am sticking to it - a cover for my tub on the D-90. While taking the measurements, I found that the tub tail width is 1 inch wider than the width just behind the seats. Is this normal? I would have thought the tub to be a true rectangle. As it is, a 4 ft length of wood tapered from 5ft to 5ft 1" is needed.

As an FYI, my plan is to leave the full safety cage in place, cover the tub with t&g wood flooring, and varnish or paint the hell out of it for sealing. A 1x 1/4 inch frame sitting on rubber will address the endges. Then the fun part will be making speaker boxes for the two rear marine speakers and if my wood talents prove up to it, boat style drop storage bins down the sides (lockable of course). The front seats are to be covered by an adapted 1995 D-90 soft top (so far the most difficult piece to trim into place).

5' 3/8" behind the seats, and 5' 1" at the tail. Why, well every D-90 is special

You thought something on your truck would have the same measurements as different ends?:smileThe sides behind the front seats are pretty flimsy with no bulkhead. There is alot of play in those sides when putting one together. Accounts for it not being square.

Why, I did not assume it would be square (silly me).
My surprice is that it is ONLY 1" off.
As Mike puts it... they are all special.
