Tri-Phase Piggyback in TD5

Hi!

I'm writing from Singapore as I face a "problem" with a US vendor (Next Level Racing) - bought a piggyback unit from ebay in the US. The said unit, Tri-Phase, claimed to work well with UK made Land Rover Defender TD5 (right-hand drive, turbo diesel). In fact, I e-mailed the vendor 2-3 times to ascertain that the Tri-Phase would fit a UK made Defender and NOT the NAC version that was NOT available in the US market since 1997. e I was given the assurance that it would work each time.

Here's the product info: http://www.nextlevelracing.com/triphase.html

Sadly, it doesn't. I e-mailed the vendor to problem-shoot, and my e-mail was passed from 1 nameless person to another, and each time, I have to re-tell my story again. After more than 5 months of verifications, clarifications etc via e-mail to no avail, I then proposed a "refund". Suddenly, all communications stopped. Only 3 weeks ago, a webmaster from Next Level Racing took on my complaint and is re-looking at the issues again after hearing my story for the 8th time!!

In the mean time, I wonder has anyone here ever installed any of the piggyback products by Next Level Racing? If so, any success stories to share? Or do you have horror stories to share?

Thanx much.

Oh, that looks like a scam product. I've never seen anything like it before, and no one in the states would buy something that looked like that. I'm not surprised that you are getting bad customer service from a company that is claiming to sell a "one product fits all" engine tuning solution. I think it might be hard to get your money back.

Guys, Thanx much for your kind words. I figure as much when I opened the box and saw the generic Jap automobile diagram for Tri-Phase installation - I know I'm in deep sh*t! BUT I still believe in open and frank communication, so I e-mailed the PDF file of TD5 wiring diagram over for them to have a look-see and to advise me accordingly, no help!!! They simply said " the Tri-phase should fit your TD5" and no instruction from them. PERIOD. HELLOOOO...TD5 is a different machine altogether!!

This episode taught me not to purchase any Defender TD5 products from US website in the future. The people selling the products seem to have very little idea of what a UK made TD 5 is all about. I should stick with Paddock, Rebel 4x4 and other Landie website in UK....I have no problems with my previous online purchases with them and they know their stuff.

I hope my somewhat costly $$$$ lesson will serve as a timely reminder to all members here that Next Level Racing products just don't work on a Defender despite what they claimed on their website. AND you can't depend on their for assistance - my e-mail communication with them lasted for 5 months and on-going.....and counting...

Anyway, here are some land rovers for sale in Singapore.....just for the fun of it!! BUT remember..right-hand drive!! Ha!

YES!! Land Rover Defender is considered as commercial light-goods vehicle in Singapore!

Sorry man, LR just never even sold the TD5 here, so there are very few. Only a few reputable sellers even sell spare parts, and there is no tuning market. Its hard when you're in another country to tell figure out whether an internet vendor is good or bad.

We do have a thing called the "Better Business Bureau" though, and you can look up the Bureau in the location of the seller and log your complaint with them, so anyone who looks them up will see negative customer feedback. They wont help get your money back, but you'll probably feel better!

Just a quick update...YES!! Kindness is being taken as a sign of weakness!! After waiting and corresponding with the "NEW" webmaster that supposed to help me solve the problem for about 3 months....now I was told he is no longer with the company, Next Level Racing. The choice available to me is either to trade in for a diff model or have store credits for future purchase, BUT the truth of the matter is Tri-Phase is the most expensive unit they have in store, and they only have 3 products under their brand - ALL OF THEM DON'T WORK WITH TURBO DIESEL ENGINE!! They further implied if I don't take up the offer, my future e-mails to ask for refund will be treated as '"spams"... despite "refund" was agreed upon earlier in the e-mail communication.

Yeap!! It is a lost cause - Next Level Racing is totally untrustworthy and should not be allowed to sell "defective products" online or off-line. Jim, Taking your advice...will launch an official complaint to "Better Business Bureau" in PA (Next Level Performance PO Box 234 Bloomsburg, PA 17815), ebay and paypal.
