Transfercase squeak? Please help.

1997 NAS D90 ST
Intermittent squeak coming from the transfer-case...usually in the morning backing out of the driveway, after I get going in drive it quickly goes away. It's not u-joints either. Any ideas? There has always been a considerable amount of play in the t-case. Is the t-case easy to rebuild? It only has 72,000 miles and the fluid has always been changed regularly. Thanks!!

That's where the squeak IS coming from. Had a buddy listen from outside the vehicle while I drove in reverse. I've been pretty sure for a while now that it was coming from the t-case but confirmed it today.

I thought I had a noise coming from my t-case also. Turns out it was the e-brake drum coming loose. It was impacted by the rear drive shaft attachment.
