Transfer case shiftlock
Have a 1997 SW. Havent driven it a lot in the last year or so. Checked all fluids and started driving it again. A few days later went to shift into 4-Low. No go. Wont shift out of 4-High. Diff lock works fine. I've pulled the tunnel cover out and checked and regreased all the linkage. Lever moves fine with the linkage detatched from the t-case end of the 4-High/Neutral/4-Low switch. Went through the shop manual and found that there is a shiflock that keeps the t-case from shifting into neutral when tranny is in gear. So...I pulled the shiftlock solenoid out and the t-case shifts fine now. Watching/feeling the solenoid when shifting the D in and out of gears results in no movement of the plunger. There is little to no info on the 'net regarding these little buggers. So questions abound:
Anyone know if there is a fuse and/or a relay that serves the shiftlock solenoid? Can't seem to find one that is obviously marked nor is there mention of either in the service manual.
I did see one blog about someone with a RRC just removing the plunger from the solenoid and calling it good. Any comments on doing the same for the D? Will that result in a permanenet check engine light?
I presume the plunger would be in a 'locked' state until the tranny is shifted into neutral at which point it would unlock (plunger retracted). At that point the connector should measure some voltage, yes?
Insights or thoughts on anything I havent yet checked is greatly appreciated!
