Transfer case plugs calls for hylomar. is there a substitute?

I searched but couldn't find any info on this...
I'm looking to change the transfer case fluid on a 1997 NAS D90. It's said the need to apply hylomar to the drain & fill plug threads. Is there a substitute that can be used in place of hylomar, that is easy to source at local autozone/pepboys/etc?

Thanks!

I don't think I ever applied anything on mine. This is a tapered thread and should be self sealing (don't tighten it too much or you'll destroy the thread).

The plugs are an interference fit. The threads seal against themselves, the teflon tape only acts as a lubricant.

My new ashcroft R380 weeps around the fill plug after torquing it to the correct spec. I imagine I have a hair too much fluid in there, but want to do something about it as well.

Just look for thread sealant at the auto parts store. Don't use teflon tape.

I've had good luck just putting a dab of Loctite Blue thread sealer - something I always have around...

And do you guys replace or reuse the copper washer for the drain plug?
In other cars, I've replaced but also reused without issue.

I reuse if it's not crushed to shit and dicked up. The lr copper washers kinda suck anyway, most of the time when mine are shot I replace them with a universal thick copper washer from the hardware store
