Transfer Case is shot.

I finally figured out that is where the mysterious knocking vibration is coming from. Its a late 1994 defender.

I would like to get some advise on where to go from here. In a perfect world, I would like to predetermine what parts are needed, order them, pull it and put it back in all in one weekend.

Suggestions please on common failure issues on the transfer since I have not been inside one before.

Thanks guys

Center diff. and output bearings are the usual suspects. I would just buy a disco case and replace it.

Thanks.

Where to get a good deal and which disco case do I want. Sorry, I have been out of the loop for a while. I got into crazy motorcycles for a while now and the defender has been neglected.

I talked to him but he was at the dentist and will get back to me in the morning. I guess I'll go that route and then take mine apart and rebuild it.

I like that he took your call at the dentist.

BTW "rebuilding" yours will cost a small fortune.

$375 is a good deal. They cost $100 to ship. He also normally gives a warranty on them.

I have an LT230Q (used with 75K when installed) with my R380, 95 D-90. What a difference in noise, slop and smoothness, but I paid about 500 for the box, refurbished, but well worth it, from the dealer
