tranny rebuild advice

The guy who now owns my first 94 wants to fix the standard feature we so lovingly know as standard (2nd gear synchro is gone). What's the most reasonable way to go about this. Transfer case has the leaking feature as well and I think he will want that addreessed as well. Any one-stop shops to swap out rebuilt units for cores. I have a great mechanic but figure a swap of this nature is the most reasonable way to go.

Thanks for the advice.

Man. I don't get on here that much, but we need someone to sticky or post stuff in an easy to find place.

The second gear thing is most likely not a syncro issue. Been there twice. It is most likely the set screw on the shaft up top. Transfer has never leaked on me except out the rear. Was just a seal.

Yes, I found that too, but if the fix is that simple I think we would all be shifting happily into 2nd gear. So, I will help my friend go that route first. In the meantime, after more searching I have found some folks who have done good work for people on this board. My friend is likely to replace it regardless of a simple fix so any other thoughts are appreciated.

Might be worth a fluid change could buy him some time. Rob Dazzled of southwest rovers seemsbto be highly regarded

Rob Dassler is your man. He does amazing work. His shop is the cleanest of any mechanic I've ever used.
