Tranny?!

I went outside and noticed my truck has moved to the bottom of the driveway. I left it in gear but no e-brake. When I started it, it started making this loud clacking sound. I drives fine but the sound is apparently here to stay. Transmission bout to go? I knew i was going to knew a new one sometime.

They pop out of gear when they're getting old. Clacking sounds are universally bad. If George at RDS isnt under 18 feet of water, I'd just order up a new one from him.

I got into it and it was still in gear. Think I might just order a new one. Sooner or later it is gonna break.

Seems a little strange that the transmission went bad sitting the driveway/overnight. Were there any signs before? Could it have been left in 3rd gear . Hows your engine compression? Although those wouldnt explain new noise. Could the sound be in the motor? JP

LOL runaway Defenders

Unrelated - a friend of mine left her BMW in gear at a gas station, went to pay, came back out and it was gone. She was getting ready to call the police and report it stolen when some bystander said they had seen her car roll away.

It turns out it popped out of gear, rolled out of the station onto a fairly busy street and travelled a full block before coming to rest unharmed in a lawn. Amazingly it didn't hit anyone or anything.

Be glad you don't live on a hill!

As for my Defender I only worry the slowly growing oil puddle (engine and tranny/t-case leaks) under the truck might cause it to slide out of my driveway...maybe I need to invent a Defender diaper...

Mine made its way down the driveway within 30 minutes. The sound it was making is gone but it was definitely from the transmission. She's a tempermental one.
