Trailer wiring

My 94 doesn't have any trailer wiring. So I ordered a Hella Euro 7-way socket so I can add it like factory. But I'm confused on how to wire it. Land Rover's electrical diagrams show it to be wired like this on both the 93 110 and 97 90:

1: Tail light RH, red/orange
2: Stop lamp, green/purple
3: Direction indicator RH, green/white
4: Direction indicator LH, green/red
5: Ground, black
6: Nothing
7: Tail lamp LH, red/black

But it doesn't match the diagram for the Euro 7 plug posted by etrailer or the one in Hella's catalog.

etrailer diagram:

Yeah, but I'm not trying to compare the images. I'm comparing the Defender wiring to the 7 way Euro socket. I think I figured it out though. I think the Defender wiring diagrams are for the connector that the adapter with the converter Atlantic Britsh sells plugs into, not the wiring for the trailer socket on the back of the truck, which is what those two images are. I thought that connector and the trailer socket were the same thing until I realized AB's adapter will not plug into the Euro socket. The 94 doesn't have that connector for AB's adapter, so I'll just wire it myself for a flat 4 with a converter.

I just found this thread that is helping me figure this out.

Oh, look what I found. So the factory trailer wiring can easily be added to a truck that doesn't have it and you can make your own wiring adapter like Atlantic British sells. It's a Lucas Rists 7 way E Series connector.

Thanks for the link Chris. I'm not installing the Euro socket now though. I just got that confused with the Lucas 7 pin connector in LR's diagrams.

Yeah totally. I was just about ready to run down to a local wrecking yard to see if I could find one. So I've been looking at converters on Amazon. This one looks like it might fit the bill. CURT model 55130. Now we can make adapters just like AB's for half the price.

I use the euro 7 pin sockets with the connector above or bullet connectors depending on the truck's main harness.

I like these for the actual socket as they are metal instead of the black plastic.

Hi There,

I am tagging on to this thread as there seems to be a wealth of knowledge and I have hit a brick wall. I am essentially creating a fly lead to get me from a NATO 12 pin socket on the back of my landy to a standard 7 pin 12n socket so I can attach an Erde 142 trailer.

I have so far bought a 12 pin NATO cable with the required 12 pin socket at one end and I am now in the process of trying to wire in a 12N socket on the other end. The problem I have is that nothing seems to match up, I have had a look in the socket end that I am plugging into the landy and worked out the following...

A=Black
B=Blue
C=Pink
D=White
E=Green
F=Red
H=Unused no cable
J=Brown
K=Unused no cable
L=Unused no cable
M=Yellow - LH Indicator (Got this working)
N=Grey

Having looked at many group forums nothing is matching up let alone a standard 12N wiring Diagram.

Any advice or anything to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

Thumbs up

Thanks to Jeff for the test light advice certainly helped

A=Black - Not working
B=Blue - Apprently LH Stop but not working
C=Pink - Not working
D=White - Earth - Working
E=Green - Rear Lights - Working
F=Red - Not working
H=Unused no cable
J=Brown - Apparently RH Stop but not working
K=Unused no cable
L=Unused no cable
M=Yellow - LH Indicator - Working
N=Grey - RH Indicator - Working

Problem I now have is that on the 12n 7 pin connector...

The Brakes have a single connector yet I have potentially 2 cables
The Rear lights 2 connectors on the 12n yet 1 cable on NATO

Making progress though
