TPS wiring question

Hello- My first post ever. Like others, I'm having trouble finding a good Throttle position sensor for my NAS 1995 defender 90 with square plug- fault code 17 came up and truck is not running properly. I removed TPS, cleaned it and the contacts than reinstalled- truck runs worse. Does anyone know if wires can be cut from new round plug unit and than wired to the original square plug- and if so, what color wires match up ? THANKS

I've tried to do this without success. I found a used TPS with the flat plug through one of the used parts guys on here or discoweb.

You would think it would be a simple process since its just the plug. Im guessing they are pretty sensitive so any change in the wiring would negatively effect the ohms.
