towing capacity of an early 110 w/3.5v8 & LT95

Helping out a potential newbie interested in picking up a HiCap 110 to pull a horse trailer and such. Advice re capacity and configurations to use to safely maintain capacity will be appreciated.

Clay

Clay, The book reads...1,653 pounds on road and 1,102 pounds off road. That is for the V-8, 300 Tdi and the 4 cyl gas. If you talk to Doug he has towed much more with the 300's. I have seen pictures of him towing another Defender with a 110 DC. So I guess is how many horses he is going to be towing and if the tow rig has brakes. I towed the pop-up with the 90, no brakes on the trailer, less than 1,500 pounds and it did Ok. The problem always was in the braking however. The trailer wanted to push the truck.

For the safety of the newbies family/friends and others on the road use the correct tool for the job.

Get a F250/F350, Crewcab, 4x4 for towing things like horse trailers.

Really? That's all the 110 3.5 can tow? I would have figured it would be close to the RRC in ability. I'm going to have to lie to uhaul when I rent the tow dolly to pull the MGB.

That sounds a lot better, plus I figured out that as long as they thought it was a 1993 110 I was fine lol

That is the spec, but I would not want to tow that much as power is merely ok on the old 3.5 carbed motors.

Sorry should have been more complete in my information

The Factory Owners manual for a ROW 97

Un-braked on Road 1,653 Pounds

Overrun brakes on road 7,716 pounds

Coupled Brakes on road 8,818 pounds

I can't imagine towing those type of figures in the mountains, LOL That is unless I'm in the Dodge 3500
