ticking in the catalytic convertors?

Think th noise is coming from the catalytic converts. It does not seem to be the engine but I am not sure what it could be. Any suggestions? Thanks for the time and help in advance.

yup, time for new cats before it all goes to hell.

That is the sound of the honeycomb inside the cat breaking down which can eventually clog the exhaust leading to all sorts of badness

Yep. The cats on my new Y-pipe just crapped out after 3 weeks of ticking. Back to the shop I go.

I thought I heard mine go about a month ago but didn't know what it was. I started the truck up and all the sudden I heard loud snaps. Almost like electrical sparks. Is that the sound? How long can I drive on broken cats? And is there a way to tell for sure if they have broken up?

If you wait then it will sound like tin cans rattling in a frying pan and then if you wait some more the sound will go away because they will disintegrate completely. Not recomending this but it was my experience.

....or you can wait until the cats clog completely and the truck will barely run with the exhaust on the clogged side glowing cherry red and melting things off the motor...not to mention the damage that sometimes gets done to the exhaust valves or potential for burning the whole fawkin thing to the ground.

Generally this condition will set off a CEL and it is a really good idea to do so.
