Thread size for temp sender

Does anyone know what the thread size is for the OEM temp sender?...I am replacing my temp gauge with a VDO and need a bushing to make the VDO sender fit.

Thanks,
Mark

This has been discussed elsewhere quite a bit. To make a long story short, I put one in the RRC, couldn't find any sort of bushing that would fit the British threading, wound up cobbling together pieces at Home Depot and stuck it into the heater supply line. Works perfectly, may have to do it to the 90.

If anyone is interested the tread size of the stock sender on my 94 is 5/8-18.

I ended up making a bushing myself, since there are no bushings that go from straight treads to pipe threads. The VDO sender is a 1/8" pipe thread. I was actually able to fit the VDO sender inside the bushing and now it sits in almost the same position as the original.

Thanks for the help,
Mark

Good question. I was in the process of doing this myself. A friend of mine had already installed a VDO sender in his 95 D90 and he told me he had to use a sender that measured 1/8-27 NPT, which is VDO P/N #323 095 for my VDO temp gauge. However, when I went to install it I didn't have the correct bushing so it was a no go. I hadn't thought to measure the OEM sender first just to make sure that I had the correct thread count, but when I did measure it out to be M16x1.5, which is VDO part number #323-416.

So I beleive you can either purchase the M16x1.5 or the 1/8-27 NPT WITH a bushing kit. I had niether the bushing kit nor the M16x1.5. I went with the M16x1.5 and should be installing it later next week. I'll let you know how it turns out.
