This dash...

As I debate 110 ownership (and learn as much as I can about these trucks) I've been looking locally for a good deal.

Found one that looks too good to be true (red flag numbers 1-100). The seller represents this is a 1988. From the shape its in (fantastic) I'm wondering if that's the truth. Of course it could just be a great restoration.

The dash and the vents are a couple of things that don't look like what I'm used to seeing in 110s. Granted my 110 experience is pretty limited - so I could just be worrying about nothing here.

I've reached out to the seller for importation details - but no response on that yet.

Any thoughts or insight? Appreciate any help.

Those vents are similar to the ones in the NAS 110s. Steering wheel is not stock.

Well it is 93 and older based on the AC and the bulkhead. Certainly could be an 88. The hinges for the windscreen look right for an older truck too. Clutch pedal is pre-mid-94. Does the VIN match up with an 88?

Closed vent/AC bulkhead and dash.

I have heard them referred to as Saudi spec'd as well.

Did later model ROW trucks get that dash as well?

I haven't seen the truck live - the seller isn't being very communicative but it looks like a great deal - so of course I'm wary.

NAS 110s were the last trucks to get that dash. It was available ROW from approx. 84-92.

Awesome - thanks for the info everyone.

The truck is still listed for sale but I haven't heard back from the seller - so it may be a moot point.

However if its still for sale I need to find the magic potion that convinces my wife that this is a good idea...

I have found on two seperate occasions that showing up in the driveway with it is often times the best method.

Your experience may vary as it's not for the faint of heart.

Very true. Although a give and take process also helps.

MY TURN MY TURN

I almost looked at a truck over the weekend but the seller either sold the truck or decided to keep it. Either way I got no response but it was one of those times that I would have just bought the truck and just show up with it in the driveway.

Yea - I've pulled that one before

A while back my wife got a major promotion - ended up doubling her salary. Since we had been making about the same before - if I quit my job it wouldn't have affected us financially in the slightest.

However - I wanted a RR Sport. So one night she tells me - "if you buy that car you can't quit!" Sounds a bit like its now my choice. Fast forward a couple of weeks and she leaves the country for a week. While she was gone I bought the car.... Needless to say I didn't quit my job.

Unfortunately she's now the only breadwinner. My business isn't really making any money - so I'm trying to find something that's a straight $$ swap if I sell one of our other cars. Limits the budget a bit.

Is that one in the Denver area? FWIW, I'd be happy to show you my ROW '88 110 for comparison. My dash is nothing like that one, but from the looks of it, that one has been updated.

I also have a '83 Tdi coming that has been slightly updated as well.

My original 1988 is the same as this, and except for some cut outs in the cheap plastic, the center gray piece is the same as the NAS 110's as well.

If mine looked like this, I'd keep it. Looks real nice. But I like the utility of the standard dash better, and the AC system is totally gutted in mine -- I'd rather spend those thousands of dollars elsewhere on the car. With that said, am planning on stripping the center out of mine and making it into a standard dash.

By the way, the window hinges on mine are also just like the one in this picture. Same plastic blank vent covers as well.

I have never seen one past 92ish although I understand V8 trucks could be had ROW later so maybe there were a few Saudi trucks past 92.
