Think a TDi Discovery fits the bill - so where to start?

I asked a question about trans swaps recently, which was leading up to this.

I'm coming round to the idea of getting a complete Tdi engine / trans from the UK for a re-fit into a US Discovery. Acquiring / shipping the engine is not a problem (only lived in the USA for 3-years), so lets not worry about that aspect...

So, what do i need from the UK? I'm taking a guess at the following:

Full Engine with ancillaries like PAS pump (as well as the engine mounts hacked off the UK chassis to be welded onto the US-chassis)
Transmission with shift lever
Cross-member (i have been told the Disco TDi x-member is different to the v8 - how/why I don't know)
Rad / IC / Hoses
AC pump / condensor
Throttle cable
Master cyl
centre consol / sifter gaiter.

I'm not intending on making this a full 'pukka' UK-spec Tdi - so as/where appropriate I will use and modify the V8 fuel lines / tank, and other things along the way to make the vehicle functional.

One area I'm not so sure about - and I feel i might struggle to locate is a LHD manual pedal box. Any thoughts / suggestions on this? Again, fabrication skills might take the lead here if things get too difficult to source.

Will the AC present issues to get working? I know others have done these kind of conversions before - but also appreciate that they would rather me spend money with them, so might be short on any complex areas / tips.

Cheers,
Dave

Contact Safari Rover (Stephan) on this site... He did it to his Disco. You can find him under the Vendor Loft.

I have a nice 5 speed Tdi Disco for sale right now. If I have not already spoken to you about it. Seems I have spoken to a number of folks about it lately.

I've had good luck getting LHD pedal boxes from these guys

The AC will work fine. It is much easier to do if you get the Tdi specific parts.

The Tdi crossmember differs in that it mounts the transmission vs. the V8 crossmember that is just to keep the frame spread (V8 uses separate trans mounts)..... you will need it.

We did it to a Disco 1 many years ago. I don't recall many of the details (too long ago) but some of the pictures on the site might help you:

Have fun

The craigslist unit at $22500 is a lot more than I'd like to pay, although the truck does look in good shape! How much are you after for yours Jim (no we haven't spoken)!

I'll PM Safari Rover and see if he has anything else to suggest / add.
