I just did this last week.

I went thru 3 senders.
I settled with the m16 x 1.5 (a few threads stick out as it is longer than stock)
No leaks, I called VDO tech they said its ok as long as it isn't leaking

the sender is 16x 1.5 for the VDO gauge swap...Part No: 323-417 is what I used

Like I said, it worked but I felt a little uneasy that it didn't thread in all the way

When I do a VDO swap I open the original temp sender hole to 3/8NPT. The threads that are there are close but not tapered. I just run a 3/8 NPT tap into the original threaded hole. It can easily be done with the manifold on the truck.
