temp gauge question

Is there an easy way to test the temp gauge? It has not worked since I got the truck and that make me nervous. I have replaced the sender unit and still nothing. I at the wiring diagram and have an idea but I dont want to fry anything.

thanks

Test the resistance at the sensor and at the wire at the gauge while it is unplugged from the gauge but plugged into the sensor. If it isn't close to the same it's the wiring. If it is, it's the gauge.
Also double check that the gauge is well grounded. No ground = no work.
