TDI swap help

I'm looking for a good resourse of info on TDI swaps.
What will work with what? example: will a d90 5 speed and t-case from a tdi work in a D1?

I've found a lot of how to, but I'm looking for parts interchange info.

Disco and D90 transmissions are different.

Transfer box will swap.
main box no, as the gearsticks are in different places (and by all accounts it's a PITA to change)
you can just about squeeze the rad/intercooler unit into a defender from a disco, but you have to butcher the chassis mounts a bit.
exhaust front pipe will swap
fuel pipes not, although you could faff about and cut 'n' shut them to fit, but you'd be just as well to buy new ones for what they cost.

fuel tank can stay, although you'll have to ditch the V8 pump from the defender and fit a straight pickup pipe. you may be able to use the pickup pipe from the donor disco.

I have a disco manual transmission for a 300tdi. I would be more than happy to swap for a 90 tdi transmission I believe I also have a radiator and intercooler for a disco.

I haven't done a disco conversion (only defenders and ltwt), but you'll probably be looking at welding new engine mounts to the frame. pull the disco fuel pump, and new engine harness Once you've done it a couple times it starts getting easier

Before you put the engine in, do compression tests on the cylinders, have the injectors checked, pull the turbo and the injection pump and have them checked out. Also change the timing belt. Seems like going overboard, but unless you pulled the engine, you can't trust it. And believe me it's easier to do it on an engine stand prior to installation
