Tailgate question

Another question. the tailgate on some soft-top opens sidways. Military versions and most european 90s folds down. Military tailgates are cheap and avaliable - what is the difference? Is it to simply drill a hole for the door handle, screw on the hinges from a station wagon? thanks tim

Just drill the holes. The downward swinging gates might have tabs on the bottom for the hinges, but other than that, its the same.

I'm not sure if the holes for the swing away tail gate are the same for a SW rear door. But you'll only have to drill holes in the rear cross member and toward the top of the tub, for the hinge tabs and the locks.

I have a military fold down gate... It's really nice no rattling. If you go that route you're going to need a custom tire carrier.

Let me know if you want some pics.
