The VDO gauge would definitely be an upgrade. I had to use a punch to get that piece out of the rear housing.

But you can fix what you have with a screwdriver gently pop the vss out and put the cable drive in.
Want to sell your 1.4 ?
I want to go VDO but I need to get this thing back on the road in time for SCARR in a few weeks so I'm going to have try to swap the drives. I'll sell you the 1.4 after I drive it with the 1.2 to be sure I want to keep it...

Ok. Let me know. 1.2 will be 15% taller gearing. My brother has a 1.2 in his 200tdi 110 pickup on 33's and loves it. Raub drove that truck @ Uwharrie and thought it drove like a sports car.

So I've driven the truck a few days and overall I'm pleased with the 1.2. It's definitely easier to fall off the boost but I think once I get used to driving it it will be more appropriate gearing for me.

Unfortunately the truck has developed a heavy vibration on deceleration. I don't think this has anything to do with the t-case swap, but maybe? Any ideas appreciated - I'm supposed to drive 4 hrs to SCARR with the family this weekend...

Yes, or UJ.

You can pull a driveshaft and see if the vibration goes away....but that won't tell you if it was in fact the DS or the corresponding output bearing.
Swap in a known good driveshaft and see if noise disappears.
