swivels

when you guys tear them down do you just reshim them or do new bearings? I think its about 15lbs of pull? My Land Cruiser friend has a pretty cool scale from Marlin Crawler for measuring it. Ive also read there are some different seals to use for the wheel bearings, something about the oil from the diff mixing with the swivels/wheel bearings?

I use new shims and it should be 8 - 10 foot pounds of pull.

I'm doing it right now, but in metric Its 3.6 - 4.5 kg of pull, after you get it moving. I just bought an assortment of shims, then you just play the shim swap games until the tension is right.

Only shim the top? The guy with the cruiser says they shim from the top and bottom and there is a special tool to center the swivel?

If you're going to all of the trouble to pull it apart I'd rebuild it, not just remove shims.

http://www.marlincrawler.com/tech/ax...ade-kit-review these are cool. I figure if I can tear it all down do all the seals brakes and wheel bearings and reshim the swivel life is good. Theyve spent plenty of time offroad and still are pretty tight at 75k. I like that marlin crawler kit.

Right, just shim the top. No special tool. You could read the Rover manual or you could just let some cruiser guy tell you how it's supposed to be - your choice!

How many miles were on yours? How many shims did you take out.
