Swivel Housing/Diff oil Question

Last week I drained my diffs and refilled with 80wt90. Today I was under the truck and replaced the drain plugs with magnetic ones, and noticed that the front diff oil was definitely nastier looking than the rear. As I was thinking about this I remembered that I recently filled the swivel housings with fresh grease. I have never messed with inside the swivel housings, so I don't know how things work in there. Is it possible for the swivel grease to mix with the diff oil? Is there a seal that is messed up in there, or is it okay for this to happen?

if the stub hub seal goes bad, the front diff's oil will mix with the grease, vice/versa. Not a big deal, as long as it doesn't start leaking all at the wheel which will foul your brakes. (not good). Happened to me.

Is there a problem with just adding oil to the swivel balls without draining the grease out of them? I remember hearing a while ago that a combination is actually the best bet, but really I have no idea.
