Switch from ST doors to SW doors

I am looking into switch from ST doors to SW doors. On this sight I have read that it is possible but very little information on how to actually do it. Is it as easy as just bolting on SW doors? Also, where should I look to purchasing SW doors? Any input or thoughts will be appreciated. This is for a 97.

Thanks,
Dave

Its as easy as unbolting the old and replacing with the new. Try Rovers Down South for the doors.

I swapped my ST doors for SW doors. The hinges are identicle. The locks, latches and strikers are different. The strikers (or whatever they are called) that are mounted on the truck body are different diameter than on the ST doors, so make sure you change these out too. Also, there is a slight difference in what mounts to the bulkhead that keeps the doors open (YES! with SW doors, they can stay open without a bungee!).

Basically, no problem whatsoever. No holes to be drilled, welding or anything...just bolts right up with the correct hardware. Also, with the SW doors, you won't get D90 elbow...

What year is your defender? if it is a '95 or '97 I might be interested in buying your old doors. I have a '94. The doors are always trying to amputate my legs. The '95 and '97 soft-tops had a re-designed strap that would actually hold the door open. If you want to get rid of the old bits let me know.

rust

when looking for sw doors - the obvious thing is rust...on another thread here I mentioned that the frame was rusting behind the aluminum skin and that the paint is now bubbling due to the oxidation of the aluminum.
