Question surfboard roof racks for ST?

Hi everyone looking for any suggestions for a surfboard rack for my '97 D-90 soft top. Before I go to the trouble to try and construct some mickey mouse set up, I was hoping there is something out there on the market already. Checked Thule and Yakima websites with no result...

Thanks in advance for any help

Racks

I used the Yakima exterra towers and yakima crossbars and Dakine pads and straps.

Thanks Tom you are the second person to recommend the Yakima Q towers designed for the Xterra I don't think they make them anymore so I will have to shop around on e-bay
Thanks for the info

A really easy and cheap set up is just to use some bungee cords. I just lay a towel down on the roll bars and then bungee the board down. Works great (i guess the only problem is that it only works with the top off.

Thanks Andy I was thinking of that as well, and surfboards would be fine, but sailboards might be a little tricky driving down the highway. I think ECR is going to build me a rack

thanks for your feedback

Cool surf racks

I have been to this rodeo. I tracked down the yakima xterra clips. it works. however i normally ride a 9.2 longboard so i end up tying down to the rear roll bar.

I use a bimi top and a tonea cover on the back. The bars sit very low and it makes it difficult to take the bimi on and off.

I may be a little picky but if you can have something custom made...i say do it. my solution cost me only $150.00 because i already had the cross bars ect.

I would like to see pics , cost, and timing to get yours. -JD

surf racks

Thanks JD I have seen photos of the Yakima Xtowers combined with Yakima high raisers (3.5") and cross bars make a prefct set up for Defenders. I have the X towers and I am waiting on the high raisers and cross bars, but I am pretty confident this set up works and clears the top beautifully.

Rovers north used to have a set of square bars that mounted to the roll cage, similar to the yakima exterra set-up. I've loaded six boards on my old 90. Get a set of 10' cam buckle straps from any local surf shop.
