Superwinch Talon 12.5i install

I am trying to figure out how long of power cables do I need to have for the install. Wondering what is the average length everyone has used and where the best places to route it through?

Thanks!

I have a winch off my truck with mondo cables that I can measure for you tonight. I routed them alongside the engine compartment wall then down to the battery box. Not too many options there.

That's a massive winch for a defender

Yeah that's a lot of winch.

I usually buy about 12' of cord, and wind up with a minimal amount of excess. I'll typically run out the front edge of the seatbox, up the bulkhead and along the top of the inner fender. Then behind the headlight and out a hole towards the bottom of the inside face of the wing (pointing towards the radiator), then out of the grill and to the winch.

It's a bit of a pain, but the line is nicely tucked away and minimally visible. Use clamps to keep everything secured, and make sure to use a grommet anywhere that a piece of metal could chafe though the insulation and cause a short.

In addition to grommets, I recommend running the power inside heater hose. I got this tip from an old Pendy post. I used omega clamps and stainless hardware to secure the hose to the fender well. It came out very nice:
