Question Sub woofer cable?

Anybody got the spec on subwoofer cable?

I am hoping I can just get the cable and plug it in either to the back of the head unit (stock in 97 D90) or the amp. Then I'll grab a sub at electronics shop and rig a mounting to the back of the ctr console.

Any1 got the 411?

SUB

Wicks,
I'm just about ready to install an Infinity Basslink, self powered sub, I'm a rock guy but like bass. For $349, sounds about 100 times better than stock LR sub

wicks,

If you want to put a sub in, i'd get rid of the stock reciever. There are a lot of them out there, but look for some with sub out's. I run two 10 inch rockford he2's with a rockford 401s amp......they hit good. I used a basic wiring kit to hook the amp up to the battery, it has some pretty burley wire, like 4 or 0 awg, and from the amp to the subs i'm only running 16 awg, but i wanna go to like a 12 or 10 awg wire. I love loud music, but watch out people get jealous and steal ur stuff if you don't keep an eye on it....it happened to me

I don't think I'm that subish. I want to hear the low notes in some modern music I listen to. And getting rid of original equipment is not an option. So...I need to figure how to plug a sub into the original system. Thanks for sharing tho...

I have a sub harness and sub amp for a D-90. Genuine. I just needed the box and finisher. Sold the speaker. So that's what's left.
Is that what your looking for?

Thanks Mike, now I have the wiring, and just need a speaker. I am going to pick up a speaker and mounting shroud at an electronics store, and am wondering if there are any specs I should stay within.

Would love to know what size and ratings were on the sub speaker originally installed...

The original sub for the LR rear door subwoofer was an 8inch, the amp was terribly small, I would guess it was about 50 or 100 amps. i have the LR sub, but replaced the sub with an Rockford Fosgate 8 inch HE woofer and ran an aftermarket 300 watt amp to the speaker. Great sound from a single sub. I would definetly recommend this single speaker for a replacement for the OG sub. I listen to all types of music and have not been dissapointed with the bass, just make sure that your sub is ported and sealed, it makes a world of difference....

Niles, sounds like I have a bit to learn before I reach audiophile status.

I might like to try your original sub if it still works. And you are in my town! I see a green 90 with something like a hannibal rack on it in Glendale sometimes, by Starbucks on Pacific. ?

Anyone installed the stock sub setup in their Defender? How does it connect up?

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

I was re-wiring my rear speakers and such. Found two small gauge wires (same as speakers) behind the speaker enclosure that were pig-tailed and plugged (looks factory). This is on the rear passenger side by the door, coming through with the main rear wiring harness.

Are these the fabled subwoofer inputs? If so, any reason I can't use these and couple them with an aftermarket powered sub? I don't remember the wire colors, I think they were green and purple and stuff.

Any help?

If they are the Sub cables then there is no reason you cannot use them for an amplified sub. If you hook them to an amp I would suggest hook them to the speaker level inputs before hooking them to the RCA 4 volt inputs. Man, I was thinking about asking if you needed help with anything but there was just so much there and your seemed to have it very well planned out. I have some junk speakers that we can use to test out those wires to see what they are.

Good call on the speaker level inputs. They are far to thin a wire for RCA 4 volts. Since the '97 Amp and head unit do have the wires for a Sub, I think these must be them. And it would be pretty damn convenient for them to already be there.

But I just can't figure out if they were intended for trailer wiring or for the subwoofer as everything else is covered. I should have written down the wire colors...

Dave I'd say hook a volt meter to it but the state of your 90 tells me it will read 0 volts for a while. Didn't the stock sub have an amp? If so wouldn't they also have to have a power wire also?

Hey now... she'll be whole again shortly....

I don't want to hear any doubts!

I don't have any idea where the power lead might be.

What I mean is wouldn't there be one there if it was the sub cables?

I bought a sub wiring harness and little amp setup from a guy on this thread, but it turned out to be for a Range Rover and I can't see any way to hook it up.

Those wires could be for the sub. There are way too many wires on the setup I bought, but what's there is a couple of greyish-purple wires and white wires (short) and then longer red and white and grey wires.

Wicks. The cable and amp were from the NAS D-90 sub kit part # RTC7793. If they are not what you want, send them back and I'll refund your money as I offered in our previous email exchanges. No problem.
We don't use the factory wiring, amp or speaker. That's why I had your peices around. I prefer the Genuine speaker box (there are other options) to give it a clean look. We fab our own harness, use a 'Tosh amp and a JBL sub.
It gives a nice, clean sound.
It is not my original design, so I can't post the details with out permission. I'll ask if it's alright.
