Strange engine noise

So yesterday near the end of a a 5 hour drive I hear this strange noise coming from the engine while stopped at a light. It sounds like a popcorn machine and a loose heat shield combined!

There are no signs of lower performance. All fluid levels are good and clean. No exaust color change...no leaks. I'm going to take it in to let a more experiance ear listen, but I thought one of you guys might have experianced this before!!

Well I'm pretty sure it's the compressor for the AC. Good thing it's too cold to need it...I put my hand on the pump and can feel the clunking and vibration (insert joke here). So the good news is its not the engine!! Of course this hasnt been confirmed yet but I think for the short term I'm good!

Pop the belt off and fire it up and see if the noise is gone. If so then while the belt is off give every pulley a spin by hand and see which one grinds/pops/vibrates other than normal noises.

They're not rockets which means it doesn't take an engineer to diagnose...most of the time!
