Strange box

What is this? Inside right rear wheel well frame mounted usually hidden by fuel filler hose. Emissions or such? js

No service required. In most cars these are filled with a charcoal filter and they do not need replacement unless it cracks.

One of the hoses, which for some reason seem to be made of a ridiculously brittle plastic, broke off at the connection at the bottom of the canister when i dropped my tank to replace a rusted out skid plate. Can we run without these without tripping a code? Been looking at either repairing some way or doing without. Last time I looked at prices of these things, they were very pricey for what they are.

That can be a potential vacuum leak to the intake. Someone else may be able to more than I can about the way the hoses are routed.

Im having something similar with this black box. It has 3 hoses that come our and 1- the one on the left- does not go anywhere. Is it broken and need to be connected? Gasoline is coming out on occasion. And I don't want anything catching on fire.

Based on the info about what it is there wouldn't be liquid gas coming out. Better check your fill and overflow hoses. Also check the fule tank vents to be sure its not pressurizing. js
