Stranded in Gretna VA

On my to Atlanta to see David at Urban Land a Cruisers and just broke down on 29South a mile south of Cotton Patch Rd. Any chance someone is within striking distance or knows of a good mechanic nearby.

Open to any and all suggestions!

You are within yelling distance of Will Tillery, who is a Defender guru and zen master.
He's actually in Roanoke now, but his old shop is Danville.

And he sells parts.

The Crowthers are about the closest I can think of. You're just about equidistant between Lynchburg/Concord and Danville there in Gretna. The bad news is I think Doug is on his way to FL right now with the trailer behind him.

Yep, on any other day Uncle Douglas would be right up the road but he's probably in Floriduh by now on his RURR trip...

He may have a suggestion for local mechanics though.

Damn - I know of a great shop in Farmville, but that's 80 min away. My suggestion is to get a tow to Danville and ask Tillery what shop would be best.

Josh is right, Doug is the closest assassin. Bummer that he's out of town.

Thx guys. Really appreciate how quickly this group of guys jumps to help.

It was seized PS pump. Just had to let smoke settle to know for sure. Cut the belt and back on the road. Only 340 miles to go.

I was clipping along at 70mph when steering started to feel overly sensitive. I was having to micro-correct every movement to keep a line.
Within 15 minutes of that power steering pump seized. Smoke & burning rubber smell everywhere.

All good now. David is sourcing a pump. There goes a chunk of my budget for other planned goodies!

Thx again. All is well.

Thx for Doug's number and info, Josh. Appreciate the quick replies.

It all worked out! After leaving Urban Land Cruiser last night, I flew to Orlando for conference so got a chance to stop in and see Steve @ HP Safari today. Apparently, Doug was in yesterday and I just missed him. Small Defender world!

Cool happenings at HP Safari! Steve was super nice and accommodating showing me around the shop. Lots of pics!
