Stereo System question fro Mike ECR

Mike,

I have factory spacers and grills but a JL 6.5" speaker won't fit.
5.25" fit but look too small for the spacers.

My question are:

1. How do you make a 6.5" speaker fit with the factory spacer?
2. How do you attach the factory grills to the JL 6.5s since they don't have a lip for the grills to attach to?
3. My stereo is in the dash and I want to run the iPod USB cable through the bulkhead to engine bay then down and over the tranny to cubby box. The supplied cable is not long enough and I heard if you get an extension it may slow down the system and not work at all. What are your suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Send me an email and you'll get a quicker reply.

On some brands depending on the speaker chassis you have to hog out the inside of the plastic housing some.

On JLs we use the JL grill as is is a nice look. It was the Alpines that had grills that looked like space ship parts so we installed the factory grills bay making some small changes to the speaker chassis and then using an O ring to get them to snap and stay in place.

We run the iPod cable down to the fuse box area and then to the cubby box on automatics.
Normally we would never run wires across that area, or under carpets and would do it the way you suggest, but for one iPod cable that is easy to tuck out of the way for gearbox service, we let that one pass, but only on automatics with the full console.

On 5 speeds you have to go the long way round as you suggest with an extension. In the Alpine parts we use I have never seen a slow down with extension cables... yet.

Hope that helps.

Thanks but we have plenty.
Since we switched to JL speakers to get rid of the slight tinny sound the Alpines developed over the last few months we don't use the factory grills anymore.

Have to check the part number but they look like this.
Can't find them in the UK? That's odd.
