Stereo removal and sunroof fasteners

Two questions.

1. I have an old stereo in Tuffy cubby compartment that I want to replace. The Tuffy is bolted down into the seat box. Is there a way to remove the stereo without having to remove the cubby? How does the stereo attached in the cubby? I have tried pulling it out but its stuck. Is there a way to remove the Tuffy trim around the stereo?

2. I removed the trim from the sunroof the other day and noticed that the little hex head screws that fastens the aluminum trim to the roof are corroded/rusty. If I unscrew these is there a corresponding fastener on the other side or do these attach to the roof? I just want to make sure that when I replace them, bits aren't coming out on the other side, if that makes sense. I don't have a good exploded diagram of it.

On the stereo question, the simple answer is,"it depends." Most old style stereos(prior to mid '80's) must come out the back. Many pull out stereos(early theft deterent and predecessor to the removable face stereos) can come out the front. You pull out the unit and there are generally tabs that hold the sleeve in place. Most removable face models must also be removed from the rear, but there are some exceptions or at least you can get around the proper removal technique on some of these. However, the bigger question is how the new unit will install. If it must be mounted from the rear, you'll have to remove the tuffy box anyway. Posting some detailed pix might help give a more definitive answer to your question.

As Mike said it depends on how old the stereo is but i had the same issue and the stereo place slid in a pair of stereo removal keys and pulled it out the front.

If you have a tuffy I am sure you can use stereo keys to pull straight out.

There's a Kenwood already installed that I want to remove (see pic).

I was going to replace it with a Viper CB (see pic).

Will it even fit? Is it a bad idea to install the CB in the cubby?

Since I won't be using it daily it would be nice to be able to lock it up.

That stereo looks like it would come out with keys and then you can remove the sleeve. Dont know if the CB will fit but I have my CB mounted out in the open and have never worried about it getting stolen. Not sure anyone is looking to make a quick buck selling a hot CB.

I like the idea of the cb in the cubby. Would be nice if you had a radio in the dash then.
