Steering box replacement & adjustment

So replaced my box with a meridian. Old box made for pretty sketchy driving- a fair amount of play and little to no caster action(adjustment was too tight to try make up the play and was acting like a steering lock)

New box definately makes the truck more drivable. However, out of the box, the caster action still wasn't as positive as I like. Ended up loosening the adjustment screw on the box a full turn. This gave me better caster action and still no play. I was surprised the box was so tight - anyone run into this? It's my understanding the adjustment should be as loose as possible without creating play. I'm on HD springs, which IIRC give a little lift. I know this can reduce my caster. I'll probably be raising it another 1" at some point and will get caster correcting arms at that point.

At least the truck isn't making random lane changes if the crown of the road changes anymore.

Ordered a new lower steering column u-joint as well. Existing has some play too (creates about 1/2" of steering wheel travel) but didn't find any info on what is normal/allowable.

And it only took 10tons in the press to get the drop arm scoffed at my puller.

Sounds like I should have taken a look at my meridian box before I put it in.
I bet it is good thing to back it off if it was tight for the longevity of the box.

Good question about the u joints, I will take a look at mine but I don't remember any play.
