They are the only way I would go. I think I have heard of one or two bad meridian boxes in the 15+ years I have been in the rover game.

I had a seal go on a meridian rebuild after about 14 months. They honored their 3 year warranty without any hassles. I'd definitely buy from them again.

What are the pitfalls in doing it home, with the correct seal kits ?

I believe someone said you had to send your core for them to rebuild, but maybe call and ask.

I think that is just buying you time. I remember reading that meridian does something to modify the box so they won't leak. My search function is not working from the iPhone due to shady service.

I have a D2 box that is leaking, I ordered the 4 sets of seals, I don't think I can use Meridian, shipping would be outrageous.

Talk to Zach at RN he can probably source the best seal kit. I think meridian was replacing some of the seals with berrings. If you want I can pull a D2 box, have it worked and send it to you. PM me if you need help

Reseal is a waste of time. The bushing wears and causes the leaks. Meridian replaces it with a bearing to my understanding.
