Steering box leaking beyond Lucas' abilities

Well, It looks like my Disco's steering box has gone from a slow drip to puking ATF everytime I park it. I've tried the Lucas fluid, which is leaking slower, but I still travel with a piece of cardboard to put under the pitman arm when parked...

Its looking like I need a new steering box, I've read about the Meridian box which if I'm going to replace one I'd rather do it once... What's the net cost of one of these?

Call meridian directly. I have a leak free box here out of a defender if you want to cheap out, but I would pay for the reman unit. Meridian is now $250 or so IIRC.

ordering a meridian later today. Thanks for the advice.

Any tricks to swapping this out? I assume getting the pitman arm off will be a huge pain in the ass. The again it is all drenched in oil...

Put the shaft on before the four big bolts in the side. Also, take the pitman arm off before taking the box off (so you can hit it with a hammer easier), but honestly I never had a problem.

I would be converting to defender style arm, damper and steering links, but that is costly.

Not the worst job I've ever done... If yours is similar to a DII. I did the opposite of Ron and took the box off and then removed the drop arm. I didn't have any problem getting the arm off with the correct puller and a hammer. The shit part of this job is getting fluid everywhere.

Turns out... no box needed (yet). The leak was the high pressure line not being all the way tightened/seated against the box. Sooooo If anbody (prob on the east coast) wants the box I bought from Meridian you can have it for what I paid. $250 + $12 shipping (+ what it'll cost to get it to you). I'll need you to send your core to them for me though.
Otherwise I'll send it back next week.
Let me know ASAP if you need it.

Figured that.... Good news is the rattle I had in my steering wheel after wheeling yesterday, which i thought was my steering box, turned out to be a broken shock tower. Much easier and cheaper fix. New one is on order already
